Oh No, Mr. Fish!

Oh No Mr. Fish - fun & educational
Oh No Mr. Fish is great. The music is very lively -- my kids sing along with every song! They also love the illustrations. As a parent, what I like best about the book is that it teaches valuable lessons about taking care of the environment, cooperation and perserverance.

A great teaching tool!
We were fortunate enough to have the author of this charming book visit our elementary school. She visited a variety of classes in grades 1, 2, and 3. Children were given copies of the book while listening to the tape recording. They all absolutely loved the story told through sing-along music and animated voices. Children really care about the environment, and it was wonderful to hear their thoughts and ideas during the question and answer session with the author. Now that it is part of our classroom library, it is the favorite of many students!

So Glad I Own It!!
This is my daughter's favorite book! She just loves it. I read her a book every night at bedtime and she always chooses this one. She brings it to friends houses when she has a sleep over too. It's so refreshing to read a book that sends the right message to kids as well as keeping them interested. Her reading skills have improved as well - but, maybe she has the book memorized! And that's ok with me - she also has the lesson memorized! I will certainly be buying other books by this author.

Playful Learning: An Alternate Approach to Preschool

Authors: Anne Engelhardt, Anne Engelhardt, and Cheryl Sullivan
Average review score:

Can't recommend it enough!
If you're the parent of a preschool age child (3-5) and aren't totally comfortable with the idea of trusting these early learning years to a stranger, I'd strongly recommend this book. It is packed with encouragement for parents and tons of fun activities to do with kids. Although the authors advocate beginning (or joining) a co-op preschool at home, it's suitable for homeschoolers too. A co-op preschool may be something I consider at a later time, but right now we're just getting our feet wet with learning. I always thought I'd send my precious little one off to a swanky preschool when the time came, but he's 4 now and the time is here, and neither one of us are ready for anything like that. We're having so much fun playing and learning together. I always thought learning at home would be frustrating (for me) and boring (for him), but it's really not if you take it in stride and follow your child's lead for the most part. The first part of this book "exposes" the history of preschool and why it ever came into being (whereas kids used to start school in 1st grade), and why it may not be the best thing for your child. It's really sad the way we parents compete with the Joneses...we want our child to talk first, spell first, add first, read first...etc. And so many of us are afraid that not sending them to preschool will cause them to be "behind" when the time for actual school (or homeschool) comes. How many of us have felt like wanting to crawl under the carpet when caught up in a group of of mothers who incessantly brag about their children's accomplishments ("My Mary could read when she was 4"..."My Johnny could add when he was 4 and a half"...My Sarah already knows all the names of the planets, and she's only in kindergarten"...) This book deals with all of those questions and insecurities quite well. Hope you find it as helpful as I have!

Preschool for Homeschoolers and Others
As a homeschooling family, we have chosen to bypass day care, preschool, and traditional school. This book reinforced our views on maintaining the special parent-child bond in childhood while incorporating the stimulating environment our children need for their mental, physical, social, and emotional development. This book won't sit on the shelf.

recipe for a loving, atmosphere for pre-school learning
I enjoyed reading this well organized and informative book. This book has helped me to provide educational activities that teach my child with fun play in a loving home. It has allowed us to introduce him to "school" in a positive nurturing environment. He is learning independence and social interactions without going into a daycare situation. We (several other moms and I) are now organizing a cooperative pre-school for our children in our own homes. The book provides background research, example lesson plans, general themes, and a Bibliography.

R.E.M. : Talk About the Passion : An Oral History (Updated Edition)
Published in Paperback by DaCapo Press (September, 1998)
Author: Denise Sullivan
Average review score:

A Necessary Companion
Unlike most "rock-n-roll" books which often pander to the lowest common denominator -- which usually is the author's own personal bias barely hidden in the text and most often the lens through which we are forced to watch the history of the band/singer unfold -- Denise Sullivan gives us something better, and frankly, more fun. "TATP" offers an original and fresh perspective on a very enigmatic yet familiar college - rock - alternative - mainstream - wacky - superstar band. This book is a must-have for both the fan and fanatic. The writing is well-done, the subject matter well-handled. While almost everyone's favorite REM song and/or album may change over time, this remains my favorite book on the band.

An informative look at R.E.M.
This book was excellent. It was great to get a history of what went on by people who actually were there.Recommendwd if you are a fan of Mr. Stipe and Co. or just interested in a the history of great music that shaped a scene.

Great
You can't get much better than this -- personal accounts of people who actually were there. There is just as much information to be found here as in _It Crawled from the South_. It proceeds chronologically with great detail, and feeds the REM-fact hungry reader just what he/she wants.

The Sheriff and the E-mail Bride/Stray Hearts (Harlequin Duets 33)
Published in Paperback by Harlequin (August, 1900)
Authors: Liz Ireland and Jane Sullivan
Average review score:

A Stunning Debut!
Jane Sullivan hits it big and hits it funny with STRAY HEARTS. In a fit of revenge, Kay Ramsey has a grooming service shave Up You into her cheating ex-fiance's prize purebred. The insult should have read Up Yours, but the artist ran out of dog. Her sentence to a veterinary clinic and her fear of animals keep the laughs coming and the chemistry sizzling between Kay and the resident vet. This book is a definite MUST READ. I can't wait for the next Jane Sullivan Novel.

Stray Hearts
I really enjoyed this book! Jane Sullivan has great skill at telling a story that makes you not want to keep reading until the last page and even then you wish that there was more (I can't wait to read her next book). There was a great mix of emotions both tears and laughs and plenty of romance too. I highly recommend this book to anybody who likes romantic comedy.

Stray Hearts
This book contains two complete novels, and I've so far only read STRAY HEARTS by Jane Sullivan, but I had to stop and write a review. Stray Hearts is about a woman, Kay, who is terrified of animals. When she catches her fiance with another woman, she hires a dog groomer to shave naughty words into the coats of his prize cocker spaniels. She gets caught, and the law comes down hard--she has to do volunteer work in an animal shelter.

The hero is the vet who runs the shelter, and he puts poor Kay to work scooping cat boxes! He's skeptical about her, and she's terrified of the animals. I won't tell you how they work it out, but I can assure you it's funny! A great, fast read, very well written, with lots of reasons to smile and sometimes laugh out loud. Especially fun if you like animals.

Signposts: How to be a Catholic Man in the World Today

Authors: Bill Bawden and Tim Sullivan

Fabulous Resource for Men's Small Faith Groups
This resource has been a life-saver for me on several occasions when I've been responsible for facilitating our men's faith sharing group. The authors have designed these topics to make it easy to lead a small group discussion with little advance preparation. A different topic for every week of the year includes scripture references, a short fictional story, and thought-provoking questions to challenge Catholic men in their daily faith walk. Although geared to Catholic men, the topics and lessons apply to Christian men of all denominations. I highly recommend this book for small faith sharing men's groups.

A great resource for Catholic Men
Our Men of God group meets once a Month in northern New Jersey. This book was an answer to prayer and has openned the hearts and minds of the men involved. The book will lead you through the Bible and Catachisim to prepare your thoughts for the small group talks at the meeting. If you prayerfully use this book and share with the men of your group you will grow closer to the Lord and the Brothers in the meeting. One note, as you share in your groups it becomes apparant men go through the same problems and your not alone.

Spiritual Focus
Signposts is a 52 week workbook based on Bible readings and Catechism. We use it as a guideline for our weekly prayer group discussions, and would highly suggest it for others. It provides an excellent structure for discussion.

St. Philomena, the Wonder-Worker
Published in Paperback by Tan Books & Publishers, Inc. (January, 1994)
Authors: Paul O Sullivan and Paul O'Sullivan
Average review score:

From a Conservative Catholic devoted to St. Philomena
The book is excellent. The other two reviewers were correct in many ways. St. Philomena is terrific and this book is just great in getting out the facts. She is so powerful because she is in heaven interceding on behalf of those who ask for her intercessionary prayers. This book shows how to receive favors from God through her intercession. I strongly recommend this book and the adoption of St. Philomena as a patron (or patroness) saint. I also recommend obtaining her chaplet (see page 96) in this book. Good Reading and God's Blessings!

A WONDERFUL SAINT
Saint Philomema is an amazing Saint. This book deals with all of the Miracles associated with her, and more. One must believe in the existence of God to appreciate the many marvelous Saint's he has raised up to combat evil over the course of Human history, and also to spread Christianity and his word. The book is fabulous, if you Love reading about Catholic Saint's I highly recommend that you read about Saint Philomena. I thank Father Paul Sullivan for introducing me to the story of one of God's incredible children from our human family. Saint's stand out from the rest of us, because what they endure and strive to accomplish spiritually is staggering beyond words. Praise God and Bless You All.

An Old Gem Back In Print
Father O'Sullivan's book on Saint Philomena is a comprehensive look at the history of the devotion to this mysterious martyr from the Catacomb of Saint Priscilla. Dropped from the liturgical calendars in 1961 due to lack of authentic biographical information about her life, Saint Philomena has been nearly forgotten by Catholics of the Post-Vatican 2 era. This is a shame, for contrary to the flood of MIS-information currently published about her, Philomena was NOT de-canonized or declared not to have existed. O'Sullivan's book sheds much needed light on the controversy surrounding the finding of her remains in 1802 in the catacombs.

This child was found with her skull very badly fractured, with evidence of lance-wounds. This, regardless of any controversy about the disarrangement of her tomb-tiles, proves that this Christian child died a horribly violent death. The badly fractured head, coupled with the vial of martyrs' blood placed inside the tomb next to her head, PROVES her martyrdom for all who care to see the truth. Her Sainthood is proven by the numerous and well-documented miracles which have continued to occur since 1805, when people first began to ask this mysterious Child Saint to pray for them.

I am delighted that Father O'Sullivan's book is again available, and I encourage all who want an ACCURATE assessment of the story of Saint Philomena, to get and read THIS book, and not the more modern and erroneous books and articles about her.

A Great, Informative Book
This book had informative chapters about how a racer is cared for, Adopting an ex-racer, bringing it home, socializing and training. It also had a a-z common health problem guide in the back. definitely one of the better Greyhound books

Greyt info for Greyhound owners
I found this book to be a wellspring of information covering some of the greyhounds humble beginnings through its racing career. It gives in deapth views of the life of the racing Greyhound in not only the US, but in Ireland, the UK and Australia; the similarities and differences between them. It talks about bringing your new adoptee home and some of the common medical issues you may have to deal with. Lots of color photos. The Ultimate Greyhound is an Ultimate source of info. Definately 5 stars.

Ultimate Greyhound is ultimate info
The Ultimate Greyhound is one of the most thorough greyhound books I have come across to date. Gorgeously illustrated with lots of colorful photographs, the book gives a generous background into the history and origins of the breed as well as origins of Coursing, Track Racing and the development of the Conformation Standard of Greyhounds in both the AKC and UKC. It shares information on the care and upbringing of these beautiful creatures from three different Countries, covering ALL aspects dogs bred both for conformation (show-dogs) and for the track. The Ultimate Greyhound also covers reasons for retirement, troubleshooting both health and common behavioral problems, giving insight into their cause as well as their cures. An excellant book. If you have a greyhound, want a greyhound or just want more info; this is the book to get.

"Jesus" - What a powerful prayer!
A beautiful little book about a powerful topic. It's written in a simple way that is easy to understand, and thus increase devotion to this simple, yet all-mighty and divine prayer that is so easy to pray, and so great! I recommened this and all of Paul O'Sullivan's books!

Powerful story
Great revelation of the many wonders Jesus' Powerful Name can do. Great stories of past uses of his name when in need, and shows that whatever we need can be obtained through his Precious Name.

Christ the name above all names
In this book Fr. Paul tells of the power of the name of Jesus. So few people know of the power and the meaning behind this beautiful name. Father tells us of the miracles behind the name and how we can acheive holyness just by repeating the name of Jesus over and over again. It was practically impossible to put down. Father tells us that the name of Jesus is so powerful that every knee in Heaven and in Hell must bend and touch the ground when the holy name is said. Father also tells us of how much the devil hates the name of Jesus and how he flees in terror when he heres the holy name. The book is a must read for anyone wanting to recieve Christ in a more spiritual mannor and who also wants to learn to fight the devil while doing so.

100 Hikes in the Central Oregon Cascades

Best hiking book!
This is simply the best hiking books I've ever owned (and I own a lot!) A great selection of hikes, well written descriptions and directions, and excellent maps. I've been on over 30 of Sullivan's recommended hikes and enjoyed them enormously. The photos are beautiful. Get this book, get out and enjoy the wilderness!

Fond memories exist because of this book
I bought all three books that Mr. Sullivan has written about the Cascades, but I never got a chance to try out all the trails. I just moved from Eugene, and just before I left, at the end of the summer, I got a chance to go to Bryce Creek outside Cottage Grove. What a hidden secret. The area was beautiful, lots of small waterfalls, not too far from the main road, and I even took my little car up to Bohemia Mountain and had an incredible view! I am glad that one of my last activites in my home state was going to this place, all thanks to Mr. Sullivan! He knows what he is talking about, so buy this book and explore your state!
